Top 10 Social Bookmarking Sites
After you’ve written a fantastic post that you think everyone in the world should read, you need to get your post out into the blogosphere to get readers to your blog. Submitting your post to popular social bookmarking sites is a great way to get blog traffic.

Having good blog content will get readers but there’s more you can do. It doesn’t hurt to speed up the process especially with the competition getting tougher and people’s attention span getting shorter with information overload.
The Biggest Social Bookmarking Sites
The top 10 social bookmarking sites with the largest audiences are:
Which Social Bookmarking Sites To Submit
You don’t have to submit to every site on this list. Some sites attract a certain type of audience more than others so you have to see which ones are best for your blog topic.
For example, Slashdot is all about web development and programming which won’t do much for your make money online blog. Digg has a more geeky slant but people submit everything to them anyway because they are so huge. But chances are, you won’t get results as much as you would if you submitted your post to a more targeted site.
For starters, concentrate on Digg, Technorati, Reddit, StumbleUpon and Propeller. Try them out and track your results to see which ones get more traffic for your blog. When you submit your post, write a good description because that’s what people will read to decide if they want to click on to read your post.
Getting friends to vote for your story doesn’t guarantee that your story will get to the front page but you can try and ask friends to vote for your story. Just make sure that they don’t leave comments like “Awesome post!” and the like. It’s the surest way of getting your post buried by other users.
Plugins To Help With Social Bookmark Submissions
To make submitting your post to social bookmarking sites easier for yourself and your readers, you can install either of these plugins:
-
The ‘Share This’ plugin adds a small link to your theme, and when users click on it, a popup with the different social bookmarking icons will open up. - Sociable – http://push.cx/sociable
The ‘Sociable’ plugin adds the icons of the selected social sites directly into your template. Keep your list to about 5 to avoid cluttering up the page. -
Add This - http://addthis.com
The “Add This” plugin comes in several versions. There is a simple link button to install in your template which leads users to the “Add This” page with a list of social bookmarking sites. A more snazzy one is a “drop-down” button which looks just like the simple button but a list of half a dozen sites appears as a drop-down list when users mouse-over it.
I’m using the Add This XML flare unit which is incorporated into my feedflare since I like the neatness it brings.
